Root Canal Retreatment
As occasionally happens with any dental or medical procedure, a tooth may not heal as expected after initial treatment for a variety of reasons. Sometimes a new problem (such as caries) can jeopardize a tooth that was previously successfully treated.
The process is very similar to root canal treatment. The doctor will reopen your tooth to remove the old root canal filling material. In many cases, existing restorative materials – crown, post and core material – must be disassembled and removed to permit access. Once all canal obstacles are removed, the doctor can predictably clean and disinfect the tooth.
After the root canal treatment is done your restorative dentist will place a crown to protect the tooth against fractures.
